- Mantah: I watched from the distance. It was Ok. The cover of Crazy was the highlight
- Ego Kill Talent: I saw 3/4 of their show. A fun rock and roll band from Brazil
- Ankor: the singer catches the attention for many reasons but the sound is not really my cup of tea.
- Danko Jones: some fun rock and roll songs. But kind of ironic that Ego Kills Talent played before, because that applies here.
- Gatecreeper: always a solid performance, I really like this band, but I saw only about half of the show
- Septicflesh: Festivals are the perfect opportunity to check out bands you have been meaning to. They were one of those. I only saw 1/3 of the set but enough to become a new fan.
- Elder: I like this band but missed half of the set. I’d love to see them on a headlining tour.
- Feuerschwanz: I don’t like this style of metal, not to mention so many bands already do this, so it’s unfair for me to rate them. People seem to have fun with it.
- Uncle Acid & the deadbeats: I didn’t see much, but liked what I heard, so something for me to check out later.
- Europe: I only saw 3 songs, one being the final countdown, being a one hit wonder band, I guess I saw what really matters
- Def Leppard: thanks Graspop for all the overlaps. I would have loved for them to be the last band and for me to see it in full but no I couldn’t. I had fun with the first 4 songs.
Disappointing
- Sepultura: honestly I only chose them over primal fear because it was supposedly my last chance. But on a farewell tour to play 3 songs from a New EP including one ballad during a 50min set ? That was just boring.
- Queensryche: Too many deep cuts for such a short set, despite playing only old songs, it was kind of boring and the energy was visibly low. Such a pity, last time I saw them it was so much better.
Just OK
- Megadeth: good setlist, good musicians but Dave is struggling, it’s indeed time to call it quits. But I appreciated this last opportunity.
- Cult of Luna: personally disappointed they didn’t play Nightwalkers. But other than that was ok, not their best show for me.
- Anthrax: I love the band, but I don’t like their setlists choices. They did play Madhouse and Medusa so that kind of saved the show for me.
- Mammoth: good rock band for the main stage. The heat made it difficult to fully enjoy it though. I’ll be paying more attention to them.
- Volbeat: I lost interest in this band around 2010. But decided to give them a shot, there was nothing else on. The first 2/3 were mostly good, I knew 75% of the songs and some of my favorites from back in the day. After that I lost interest and left a bit before the end.
- Periphery: I love the band, I don’t like the new album. And the show was 50/50, so it was so-so for me. Besides, I don’t like that they don’t have a bass player and even one guitar player didn’t make it. All in all, not great.
Good
- Accept: celebrating 50 years, they played only classic tunes, some deep cuts and it sounded great.
- Wind Rose: not a band I love but I appreciate what they do and it’s a great band for a big festival. Solid performance.
- Vower: the fact that I was in this show was a total accident, and the fact that I was impressed, even more. I’ll be certainly checking out their discography. Liked what I heard.
- Cavalera: Never take anything for granted. Hellfest didn’t see them due to an almost tragic bus accident. With that said, we knew what the show would be Chaos AD and they delivered a solid performance of it.
- Trivium: Solid performance as almost always and particularly strong setlist with some of my favorites.
- Vicious Rumors: The veterans opened the day with some very solid American power metal. Soaring vocals and catchy melodies. It was kind of the flavor of the day.
- Sonata Arctica: I had never seen them sounding so good and with such a strong setlist. Ok 2 ballads, but one of them is one of the best metal ballads I Know (Last Drop Falls) and they played my favorite song (Full Moon). Playing a second ballad is the only reason it wasn’t perfect.
- Battle Beast: if you like the last two albums, like I do, it was a very good show. The new singer is good, not perfect but solid performance. Needs to build chemistry with the band and memorize all lyrics but she’s capable.
- Evergrey: I don’t love this setlist and I saw it already this year but the first half of it has some cool shit so I’ll give them that. But the last third is a downer.
- Decapitated: I still need to fully get into their discography but the songs they played from the latest albums were great. They sounded great and the new singer is really good.
- Extreme: Until a few years ago, I never knew how great they are live. Nuno is hilarious in addition to be one of the best guitar players alive and their hit songs are fun, the new album is also good and to top it all, they played an Ozzy medley with 3 guitar solos.
- Solstafir: I didn’t recognize most songs but my favorite one was played and the show was fun, I had a great time from the barrier.
- Venom: even if I missed the beginning and there were tech issues, the classic setlist and all the guests made it a special show.
Excellent
- The Offspring: despite the torrential rain and the fact that I don’t really listen to them since the 90s, it was a lot of fun and nostalgic. I had a great time and I guess that’s all that matters.
- Letlive. : I was so happy to see them back. I love their sound and it’s always such an amazing live act. They delivered again.
- Death To All: simply perfect, I don’t know what else to say, some of the best songs from one of the best bands to ever exist. All executed with perfection.
- Leprous: Loved it! I had already seen a similar set in their headlining tour, but didn’t mind at all to watch it again, they are amazing.
- Rivers of Nihil: Amazing! Such a great prog death metal band and what a set list! Finally I saw them and I hope to see a full show soon.
- Orden Ogan: Perfect setlist, perfect execution, and the sound was great. A German power metal lesson.
- TesseracT: an amazing modern prog band, awesome musicians, great singer and a solid setlist. It was perfect for the Metal Dome.
- Mastodon: amazing, I’m so happy I chose to see it in full. I miss Brett but other than that it was perfect.
